The National Council (Nationalrat) and the Council of States (Ständerat) have paved the way for the so-called Experimentierartikel – experimental article – which allow to launch a legal adult use of cannabis in Switzerland. This makes Switzerland the first European country to allow the use of cannabis. The FOPH (Swiss Federal Office of Public Health) made it clear – the trial aims to present “a scientific basis for the future regulation of cannabis“.
Further draft details were announced by the FOPH on the March 31st 2021. The pilot schemes can be set up from May 15th 2021. Pilot schemes are set up with the express purpose of acquiring scientific knowledge. They can be suggested by public or private companies.
